WebP is an image format created by Google for the web. Websites use it because a WebP is usually smaller than a JPEG or PNG of similar visual quality, so pages load faster. It can hold photos, graphics with transparency and even animation. Current browsers display it without trouble, but some desktop software, printers, older phones and online forms still only expect JPG or PNG. Formats
Will converting WebP to JPG lose quality?
Both formats are usually lossy, so the image is decoded and compressed again. At a Quality of 85 to 100 the change is very hard to see on a photo. Lower values make a smaller file and can show soft edges or blocky areas in skies and gradients. The default is 100, the highest setting. The converted JPG will often be larger than the WebP, because WebP compresses more efficiently.
JPG cannot store transparency. If the WebP has see-through areas, they are filled with white in the JPG. Keep transparency with the WebP to PNG page.
