Free online image converter
Image Converter
Upload an image you have, choose an output format, and download the result. Limits are shown before you start, and converted files are deleted after 15 minutes.
Max upload size: 10 MB.
Converted files are deleted after 15 minutes.
Location and other metadata are removed unless you choose to preserve them.
How to convert an image
Choose an image
Select a JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF, BMP, or ICO file of up to 10 MB. The upload starts when you convert.
Choose the output
Pick JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF, BMP, or ICO. For JPEG and WebP, set a quality from 50 to 95.
Download the result
The download appears only after conversion finishes. The link stops working after 15 minutes.
Supported formats
Only these formats can be uploaded and produced. Other formats are rejected before conversion starts.
JPEG
Photographs saved as .jpg or .jpeg. JPEG has no transparency. The quality control applies, and the result is lossy.
PNG
A good choice for screenshots, graphics, and images that need transparency. PNG uses lossless compression, with an optional lossy color reduction.
WebP
Often smaller than JPEG or PNG, with transparency support. Current browsers can display it. Some older tools still expect JPEG or PNG.
GIF
A single still frame. Animated GIFs are rejected so frames are not dropped silently.
TIFF
A single-page TIFF, saved with lossless compression. Multi-page TIFF files are rejected.
BMP
An uncompressed bitmap. 24-bit and 32-bit BMP files can be read. The quality slider is not used.
ICO
A Windows icon. Output is a PNG stored inside an ICO, scaled to fit within 256 pixels.
Limits
Upload size
Files can be up to 10 MB. Image dimensions are not limited by a pixel cap.
Still images only
Animated and multi-page files are rejected. Export one frame if you need to convert part of an animation.
Files you upload
Paste a link from another website and it will not be fetched. Convertola only accepts an image file from your device.
Retention and rate limits
A converted file is kept for 15 minutes. The same network can start 8 conversions per minute and 40 per hour.
What you can expect
No install
It works in the browser on a phone or a computer. The image is processed on the server.
Limits before you start
Accepted formats, file size, and retention are stated next to the tool.
Metadata is optional
The output drops location and other embedded metadata unless you choose to keep them. JPEG, PNG, and WebP can store that data. GIF, BMP, and ICO cannot, and TIFF keeps XMP only.
A private download link
The result is not published in a gallery. The link is random and expires.
Choosing a format
The right output depends on the image and where you will use it.
Photographs, graphics, and transparency
Photographs are usually fine as JPEG or WebP. Screenshots, logos, and images with text often stay sharper as PNG or WebP.
Use PNG or WebP when the image needs a transparent background. JPEG cannot store transparency.
What the quality control changes
A lower JPEG or WebP quality usually makes a smaller file and can add visible artifacts. A higher quality keeps more detail and can make a larger file. 95 is the highest setting Convertola offers. It is not a promise of an identical file.
PNG uses a lossless compression control, so the pixels stay the same unless you choose fewer colors. TIFF and BMP have no quality control. GIF keeps one still frame, and ICO stores a PNG.
What conversion cannot restore
Converting a JPEG to PNG does not recover detail the JPEG already discarded. It only stores the current pixels in a lossless file, which can be larger.
Converting between lossy formats can change the image again. Check the download before you delete your original.
Common questions
These answers describe the converter as it works today.
Which image formats can I convert?
You can upload and download JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF, BMP, and ICO. Animated GIF, multi-page TIFF, HEIC, PDF, and video files are not accepted.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes. An image can be up to 10 MB. Dimensions are limited only by what the converter can process.
Are my images kept?
The converted file is stored so you can download it, then deleted after 15 minutes. It is not added to a public gallery.
Will the converted image look the same?
JPEG and WebP are lossy at the quality you choose. PNG output does not add another lossy step, but it cannot restore detail lost by an earlier JPEG.
What happens to location and camera data?
They are removed unless you check Preserve metadata and location. JPEG, PNG, and WebP can keep location and other metadata. GIF, BMP, and ICO cannot store them. TIFF keeps XMP, not EXIF.
What if conversion fails?
Convertola names the problem, such as an unsupported file, a size limit, or a file that could not be read. You will not see a success message unless the download is ready.
Can I convert an animated image?
No. Animated and multi-page images are rejected so the result is not a surprise single frame.
Can I paste a video or page link?
No. Convertola does not download files from other websites. Upload an image you already have.
Does conversion require an account?
No. There is no account. Use stays within the file size and rate limits shown on this page.
Which languages are available?
The site is available in English and Español. A language is added only when the tool and these pages are translated.
