Audio conversion uses FFmpeg through the single-threaded @ffmpeg/core 0.12.10 build, licensed under GPL-2.0-or-later. FFmpeg. ffmpeg.wasm.
WEBM is the format browsers create when they record. Screen recorders built into web apps, browser-based voice recorders and some meeting tools save .webm files. They play in Chrome and Firefox but often not in a car stereo, an older media player or a podcast host. This free WEBM to MP3 converter turns them into MP3s that any device opens. For other video types, use the video to MP3 converter.
How do I convert WEBM to MP3?
- Click Browse files or drag the .webm file onto the converter.
- Pick the Audio quality. 128 kbps is enough for a voice-only recording.
- Click Convert to MP3.
- Click Download MP3 and rename it if you like.
What is a WEBM file?
WebM is an open, royalty-free media format started by Google in 2010 and maintained by the WebM Project. It is based on the Matroska container. Inside you will find:
| Stream | Codecs WebM uses |
|---|---|
| Video | VP8, VP9 or AV1 |
| Audio | Opus or Vorbis |
Because the audio is Opus or Vorbis, both efficient lossy codecs, the MP3 is a second compression. Choose 192 kbps for music and 128 kbps for speech, and the result sounds practically the same as the original.
Can I convert an audio-only WEBM?
Yes. Many browser voice recorders save sound only, with no video track, and still use the .webm extension. Those files convert exactly like videos; we tested audio-only WEBM files with Opus inside. If a file in your downloads folder is called something like "recording.webm," it is probably this kind.
How long can my WEBM be?
Usually a long one, because WEBM files are efficient. Our 720p test video at 1 Mbps took about 8.5 MB per minute, so roughly 17 minutes fit in the 150 MB limit. A voice-only WEBM at typical speech bitrates can be well over an hour. High-resolution screen recordings at higher bitrates fit fewer minutes.
Why does my WEBM not play on my phone or in my editor?
Some players and editing apps do not read VP9, AV1 or Opus, or do not recognize the .webm extension at all. Converting the audio to MP3 sidesteps the problem: MP3 is supported by practically every phone, car, smart speaker and audio editor.
Limits of the WEBM to MP3 page
This page accepts .webm files only, up to 150 MB and one at a time. It does not record your screen and does not download videos from websites or links. For other formats, use the main MP3 converter.
Frequently asked questions about WEBM to MP3
Is this WEBM to MP3 converter free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up, and the file is converted in your browser.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. The WEBM stays on your device. Only the MP3 you download is created.
Can I convert a WEBM that has no video?
Yes. Audio-only WEBM files from browser recorders convert the same way as WEBM videos.
Does WEBM to MP3 lose quality?
A little, because the Opus or Vorbis audio is compressed again. At 192 kbps the difference is very hard to hear.
Which bitrate should I use for a screen recording?
128 kbps if it is mostly voice, 192 kbps if it includes music.
Can I convert WEBM to MP3 on a Mac or iPhone?
Yes. Open the page in Safari, choose the WEBM file and convert it.
