How to convert WAV to MP3

  1. Choose the WAV

This page accepts a WAV only. Other types belong on the main MP3 converter.

  2. Pick a bitrate

192 kbps is the usual choice. 128 kbps saves more space for speech. 320 kbps keeps more of a clean recording.

  3. Download the MP3

The button appears after the file has been created in this tab.

What you give up

WAV is uncompressed

A one-minute stereo WAV at CD settings is about 31.8 MB. The same minute at 192 kbps is about 4.3 MB. The MP3 is easier to email and store, and it is not identical to the WAV.

A higher bitrate is not a restoration

If the WAV was already a recording of a compressed source, 320 kbps cannot put the missing detail back.

When WAV to MP3 helps

Sharing a recording

Use it for a voice memo, a field recording, or an exported track that is too large for the place you want to send it.
