How to convert M4A to MP3

  1. Choose the M4A

    This page accepts an M4A only. AAC in another container belongs on the main MP3 converter.

  2. Pick a bitrate

    128 kbps is often enough for a voice note. 192 kbps is the default for music. 320 kbps cannot add detail the M4A does not have.

  3. Download the MP3

    The download appears only after the MP3 has been created.

What an M4A contains

An M4A from a phone is often AAC inside an MP4-style container. Convertola decodes that audio and encodes an MP3. The conversion is lossy.

Is 128 kbps enough for a voice note?

Often yes. Speech does not need the space that music does. Use 192 kbps or higher when the M4A is music.
