How it works
How to convert CAF to MP3

Choose your CAF file. Drop it on the box or click Choose a file. Only one file at a time, up to 150 MB.
Pick the audio quality. Choose 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps. If the CAF holds uncompressed audio, 256 or 320 kbps keeps the most detail.
Convert. Click Convert to MP3. Your browser does the work, so the file never leaves your device.
Download. Change the Download name if you like, then click Download MP3.
Basics
What is a CAF file?

CAF (Core Audio Format) is an audio container created by Apple for macOS and iOS. Like a box, it can hold different kinds of audio: uncompressed PCM, AAC, Apple Lossless (ALAC) and others. Unlike WAV and AIFF, it has no 4 GB size limit, which is why audio and developer tools use it for long recordings.
Outside the Apple world, though, CAF support is rare. Windows, Android and many apps won't play it. MP3 solves that.
Good to know
Where do CAF files come from?
Mac audio apps
That export or record in Core Audio Format.
Sound effect and loop libraries
Made for Apple tools.
App and game projects
Since Apple's developer tools often use CAF for short sounds.
Files shared from an iPhone or Mac
That arrive as .caf on another device.
Formats
Which bitrate should I choose?
It depends on what's inside the CAF. If it's uncompressed PCM or Apple Lossless, you're starting from full quality, so 256 or 320 kbps is a good choice for music. If it's AAC, match the original, often 192 or 256 kbps. For voice, 128 kbps is enough.
| Quality | Size per minute | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 128 kbps | about 0.96 MB | Speech, voice memos, podcasts |
| 192 kbps | about 1.44 MB | Everyday music listening |
| 256 kbps | about 1.92 MB | Music on good headphones |
| 320 kbps | about 2.4 MB | The highest MP3 setting |
Limits
What this converter does and doesn't do
- It converts one file at a time, up to 150 MB.
- It keeps the first audio track only. If a file has several tracks, the others are skipped.
- It runs in your browser with ffmpeg.wasm. Nothing is uploaded to a server, and there's no account to create.
- It can't open copy-protected (DRM) files.
- The output is a single MP3 at the bitrate you choose.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is converting CAF to MP3 free?
Yes. There's no charge, no account and no watermark.
Can I convert CAF files on Windows?
Yes. The converter runs in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android or iPhone.
Is my CAF file uploaded?
No. Your browser does the conversion, and the file stays on your device.
My CAF file is bigger than 150 MB. What can I do?
Uncompressed CAF files grow fast. Split or trim the recording in an audio editor, then convert each part.
Does the converter keep loops or markers?
No. CAF can store extra data such as markers and regions, but the MP3 holds the audio only.
Will the MP3 sound worse than the CAF?
MP3 is lossy, so a little detail is removed. At 256 or 320 kbps, the difference is very hard to hear for most listening.
